First Annual Pro-Am at Five Ponds Golf Course Raises Funds for Veteran Support Programs

Warminster, PA – November 3, 2023 – Five Ponds Golf Course in Warminster held its inaugural Pro-Am Tournament on Sunday, November 3rd, to benefit Folds of Honor and PGA HOPE, programs dedicated to supporting veterans and their families. The tournament featured 144 participants, including 36 PGA Professionals and 108 amateur golfers from the local community, forming 36 pro-am foursomes for an exciting day of golf, camaraderie, and competition.

The event followed a better-ball format, using one gross score and two net scores from each 4-player team. The top score in the net division went to the team from LuLu Country Club, led by PGA Professional Dennis Poiesz, with amateurs Stephen DeFrancis, Scott McKeever, and Fred Graziani, finishing at an impressive 16 under par. In the gross division, Five Ponds PGA Professional David Smith and his amateur team of Joe Linde, Doug Baran, and Rich Wade clinched the win with a score of 5 under par. Among individual professionals, top scores were recorded by Michael Little of Philly PGA with a 73 (+2), followed by Anthony Hoffman and Rocco Sgrillo of John F. Byrne Golf Club with scores of 75 (+3) and 76 (+5), respectively.

With ideal weather, clear skies, and temperatures reaching 70 degrees, the event was memorable from start to finish. Opening ceremonies featured a color guard presentation by Washington Crossing National Cemetery’s Honor Guard, led by retired Airforce SMSgt. Don Tilotson, and a stirring rendition of the National Anthem sung by retired Capt. Shanda Taylor Boyd.

The day included various skills challenges and prizes for amateurs, adding extra excitement to the event. The tournament’s success was made possible by strong support from sponsors, with special recognition to Title Sponsor Gilmore and Associates, as well as Warminster Township, for helping make the event a highlight of the season.

Through the collective efforts of participants and sponsors, this inaugural event raised nearly $3,500 to support PGA HOPE and Folds of Honor. $3500 for PGA Hope and Folds of Honor Programs. The Folds of Honor program offers secondary educational assistance through scholarships, to the children of Gold Star families. PGA HOPE program provides golf instruction from PGA Professionals to all veterans and gives veterans opportunity and access to play golf together.
